Orthotic footbed design & alignment technology

The Mabel features our proprietary ContourWave footbed, a podiatrist-engineered insole that guides your foot into neutral alignment with every step. The built-in medial arch support cradles your longitudinal arch at the anatomically correct height, reducing overpronation and distributing pressure evenly across the plantar surface.

Unlike generic foam inserts, our orthotic footbed is molded directly into the sandal structure. The deep heel cup stabilizes your rearfoot and prevents lateral roll, while the metatarsal pad beneath the ball of your foot relieves pressure on the forefoot bones. This biomechanical design reduces compensatory stress that travels up the kinetic chain to your knees, hips, and spine.

Adjustable strap system & fit customization

The dual adjustable straps on the Mabel give you independent control over forefoot and instep fit. The front strap sits across your toes and ball of foot, securing the forefoot without pinching. The rear strap wraps around your instep, anchoring your midfoot to the orthotic footbed for optimal alignment.

Both straps use premium hook-and-loop closures that hold securely through repeated wear and washing. The webbing is reinforced nylon with finished edges to prevent fraying. We designed the strap placement to avoid common pressure points on the dorsal foot, and the backing is lined with soft foam to prevent rubbing.

Materials, construction & durability

We construct the Mabel upper from a combination of genuine leather and breathable textile mesh. The leather panels provide structure and long-term shape retention, while the mesh inserts allow airflow to keep your feet cool in warm weather. All seams are double-stitched and reinforced at stress points.

The outsole is molded rubber with a traction pattern designed for indoor and outdoor surfaces. We extended the rubber coverage under the toe and heel strike zones where wear occurs most rapidly. The outsole is bonded to the EVA midsole using a compression-molded process that eliminates glue separation failures common in cheaper sandals.

Finally, slides that don’t hurt my arches
I’ve tried at least a dozen sandals claiming to have arch support, and the Mabel is the first that actually delivers. The adjustable straps let me get a secure fit without tightness, and my plantar fasciitis pain disappeared after three days of wearing these. I bought a second pair to keep at my office.

Best sandal for swollen feet
I have lymphedema in my feet and most sandals are either too tight in the morning or too loose by afternoon. The dual adjustable straps on the Mabel let me modify the fit as my feet change throughout the day. The arch support is also excellent—better than my $400 custom orthotics.

Eliminated my knee pain
My physical therapist recommended Revitalign for my knee issues caused by overpronation. Within two weeks of wearing the Mabel daily, my knee pain reduced by about 80%. The footbed really does keep your foot aligned properly, and I can feel the difference in my gait.

Solid support, minor break-in needed
The arch support is definitely real—these aren’t cushiony flip-flops. It took about four days for my feet to adjust to the structured footbed, but now they’re the most comfortable sandals I own. I wear them for my daily three-mile walks with zero discomfort.

Stylish and actually orthotic
I was skeptical that a sandal this attractive could have genuine orthotic benefits, but the Mabel proved me wrong. The leather looks upscale, the fit is customizable, and my podiatrist approved them as a replacement for my bulky orthotic inserts. I get compliments every time I wear them.

Perfect for standing all day
I’m a nurse and spend 12-hour shifts on my feet. The Mabel slides give me the support I need without the closed-toe heat of my work shoes. My lower back pain has improved significantly since I started wearing these during my shifts. The straps stay put and the footbed doesn’t flatten.

Good to know

Questions about the Mabel adjustable slide?

The Mabel is designed in a medium width, but the dual adjustable straps provide significant accommodation for wider feet. Many customers with wide or extra-wide feet report excellent fit by loosening the straps to allow the foot to spread naturally across the footbed.

The orthotic footbed itself is slightly wider than standard sandal footbeds to support proper foot alignment. If you typically wear wide-width shoes, we recommend ordering your usual size and adjusting the straps for comfort. The hook-and-loop closures offer about one inch of adjustment range on each strap.

The Mabel features a podiatrist-designed orthotic footbed with 15mm of arch height at the apex, suitable for medium to high arches. While it’s not custom-molded to your individual foot like prescription orthotics, the ContourWave footbed is engineered to support the three arches of the foot in anatomically correct alignment.

Many customers find the built-in orthotic support meets or exceeds their needs from over-the-counter orthotic inserts. If you currently use custom orthotics prescribed for a specific structural issue, consult your podiatrist before switching to orthotic footwear. The Mabel’s footbed is not removable, so it functions as a complete orthotic system rather than a platform for inserting separate orthotics.

Yes, the Mabel runs true to standard US women’s sizing. We recommend ordering your usual sandal size. If you’re between sizes, size up if you have a wider forefoot or experience foot swelling during the day.

The adjustable strap system accommodates minor size variations, so you don’t need to size up for fit adjustability. The sandal is available in both full and half sizes from 6 to 11. Keep in mind that the structured orthotic footbed may feel different from generic sandals during the first few wears as your foot adapts to proper alignment support.

The Mabel can handle occasional water exposure and light rain, but it’s not designed as a water sandal. The leather and textile upper will absorb moisture, and prolonged submersion can damage the materials and reduce the lifespan of the orthotic footbed.

For beach or pool wear, we recommend our Shore water sandal, which uses the same ContourWave orthotic technology in a quick-dry synthetic construction. If your Mabel slides do get wet, stuff them with newspaper and air dry away from direct heat. Do not use a dryer, as heat will deform the footbed and shrink the leather.

Most customers report a break-in period of three to five days of regular wear. During this time, your feet are adapting to the structured arch support and proper alignment that the orthotic footbed provides. You may notice some mild arch soreness initially, similar to starting a new exercise routine.

We recommend wearing the Mabel for a few hours the first day, then gradually increasing wear time. The adjustable straps help during break-in by allowing you to fine-tune pressure distribution. If you experience sharp pain rather than mild muscle fatigue, loosen the straps slightly or consult a podiatrist, as your feet may require a gradual transition to orthotic support.

Both the Mabel and Bella feature our ContourWave orthotic footbed and similar construction quality. The key difference is the strap configuration: the Mabel has two independent adjustable straps for maximum fit customization, while the Bella has a single wide cushioned strap for easy slip-on wear.

The Mabel is the better choice if you need precise fit control, have foot swelling issues, or want maximum security during active wear. The Bella is ideal if you prioritize quick on-off convenience and prefer a cleaner single-strap aesthetic. Both provide the same level of podiatrist-designed arch support and alignment technology.

The Mabel’s orthotic footbed is specifically designed to address biomechanical issues that contribute to plantar fasciitis. The deep heel cup stabilizes your rearfoot, the medial arch support reduces strain on the plantar fascia, and the metatarsal pad redistributes pressure away from the heel.

Many customers report significant plantar fasciitis relief within one to two weeks of wearing the Mabel daily. However, results vary depending on the severity of your condition. The sandal works best as part of a comprehensive approach that may include stretching, icing, and other treatments recommended by your podiatrist. The Mabel provides the alignment support needed to prevent re-injury during the healing process.
